Parlay Push and Void Rules

When a bettor places a parlay, they are banking on multiple different bets to settle in their favor. But individual bets within a parlay can push, meaning the result lands exactly on the listed number. At most sportsbooks a pushed leg simply drops out and the ticket is regraded on the remaining legs, but some house rules treat it differently. The outcome can significantly vary by the sportsbook.

House rules vary - some may void the whole wager. For example, if any leg of a same-game parlay pushes, some books may void the whole ticket, according to their rules. But other books handle it differently. Same-game parlays are not always treated like standard parlays.

In a standard parlay, if a selection pushes, gets voided or settles as no action, those bets are dropped and the parlay revalued on the remaining legs. Typical house rules say that voids and pushes reduce the number of selections in the parlay, and the payout is then recalculated from the odds of the remaining legs.

That change matters to the payout. Take a $100 three-leg parlay with every leg at -110, which is 1.909 in decimal odds. If all three legs win, the ticket returns about $695.79 (1.909 x 1.909 x 1.909 x $100), a profit of about $595.79.

Now suppose one leg pushes. That leg drops out, the ticket is graded as a two-leg parlay, and if the other two legs win it returns about $364.46 (1.909 x 1.909 x $100), a profit of about $264.46. The bigger the parlay, the bigger the payout reduction.

Voided legs can stem from postponed or abandoned games, or from a player prop where the player does not take part. House rules commonly grade those legs as no action, and the parlay is regraded the same way as with a push, though the time a postponed game has to be played before it is voided differs by sportsbook and sport.

Beyond the default rules, sportsbooks can introduce other variants. For example, some special bet types use different rules, and rules can vary by state. When a situation is unclear, the sportsbook's own house rules decide how the bet is settled.

Either way, the upshot is the same: the payout settles on the remaining valid legs, not the original odds of the ticket as written. That is how most North American sportsbooks handle it, but it is not universal.
