The Plaza Hotel & Casino is located in Downtown Las Vegas at South Main Street and Fremont Street, directly across the street from the Golden Gate Casino Hotel. Prior to becoming a hotel and casino property, the land where the Plaza is built was the site of the first train station in Las Vegas.
Today, the Plaza is owned by the Tamares Group, and PlayLV is the leaseholder and operator of the property. However, this was not always the case. In the 1970s, the Plaza was owned by a group of local businessman under the name Union Plaza Hotel and Casino, in reference to its Union Pacific rail station past.
In 2005, the Barrick Gaming Corporation acquired the Plaza and later in 2005 the Tamares Group assumed ownership. The Plaza underwent a $35 million dollar renovation project that concluded in 2010. This included an entirely remodeled casino floor and lobby, new restaurants, bars, and entertainment, and renovated hotel rooms.
When arriving at the Plaza you have an option to self-park, which is free for hotel guests and free for the first 90-minutes for those who are just stopping by. Non-hotel guests can receive parking validation from Oscar’s Steakhouse or the Plaza casino based upon their play. Valet parking is also available. If you are going to pay for parking at the Plaza it is normally $2 per hour, with a max of $12 for 24 hours.

The Plaza is located at the end of the Fremont Street Experience and is definitely more of a party atmosphere inside. There is frequently live music and to go along with the party atmosphere the staff often serve strong drinks at the bar. Also, there is a party pit near the main entrance, which is open most evenings.
The game offering is fairly standard as the Plaza offers Blackjack, Craps, Let It Ride, and Roulette to name a few. There is a solid selection of gaming machines on the casino floor, including video poker.
Ownership is definitely attempting to improve the casino as evident via their major $35 million dollar renovation project and the Plaza is still undergoing changes and improvements. It is worth noting that bingo has been made available relatively recently as part of the changes to the casino floor.
Baccarat at Plaza
There is no baccarat offered at the Plaza.
Blackjack at Plaza
One of the more popular blackjack games at the Plaza is the world’s most liberal 21. They also offer easy jack blackjack as well. Additionally, you most likely find $5 minimum blackjack tables running and many of the tables pay 3:2. If there are no $5 tables running, expect to see a higher than normal minimum of $25 per hand.
Typically the tables at the party pit pay 6:5 and most games are six-deck blackjack games but we wouldn’t be surprised if you are able to find a few double-deck games running as well.
Craps at Plaza
Craps at the Plaza is 10x odds, which is one of the better games available in Downtown Las Vegas. The minimum wager typically starts at $5 and you can expect the table to get pretty full here as it is one of the more popular games on their casino floor. During busier hours they oftentimes have multiple craps tables running.

There is no high limit room at the Plaza most likely because the casino attracts less high stakes players and more partygoers.

With over 700 gaming machines, the Plaza is sure to have slot games that you are interested in. There is a good mix of classic and modern gaming machines, including 3D and newer HD gaming machines.
Denominations start as low as $0.01 and there are a handful of progressives. Also, the Plaza hosts 777 slot tournaments every Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.
High Limit Slots at Plaza
There is no high limit slot area and we suspect this is strategic. Again, to reiterate the casino tends to be more of a party atmosphere and in general, there are not that many high stakes games on the casino floor.
Video Poker at Plaza
Video poker at the Plaza is one of the casino’s strong suits as the pay tables are fairly good. While you can find pay tables higher elsewhere, relative to the Plaza’s game offering on the floor we are confident in saying their video poker is pretty good. They offer over ten different video poker games, with paybacks as high as 100.65% and 100.17% on some of their machines.
Denominations start at $0.25 and go as high as $5. You can find video poker favorites such as Jacks or Better, Double Bonus, and Double Double Bonus spread throughout the casino floor and bar areas.
Poker Room at Plaza
There is no active poker room at the Plaza. The poker room closed on March 18, 2016.
Sportsbook at Plaza
The Plaza’s sportsbook is run by William Hill and is conveniently located by the valet and self-park garage. It is set up like a triangle as there are two seating areas for sports which have their back to each other, and the racebook area is perpendicular to them.
Since this is one of many William Hill books in Las Vegas, all their lines will be the same as any other book run by William Hill. The betting board is made up of a bunch of small TVs that are behind the cashier, requiring you to get up every time you want to look at it.
While the sports betting area is large and has plenty of room, it can get smoky, noisy, and the betting board is hard to see. Therefore, we would recommend other sportsbooks before the one located inside the Plaza, but if need be, it is a practical option to place your sports bet at.

There are 1,037 hotel rooms at the Plaza and if you plan to book your stay here note that the resort fee is $20.34 per room, per night. The resort fee grants you access to the fitness center, pool and you receive free parking, WiFi, and in-room bottled water. Check-in starts at 4pm and you will need to check-out by 11pm.
With an average size of 325 square feet per room, the deluxe room options at the Plaza come with either one bed or two, and some offer a view of the Fremont Street Experience or the Las Vegas Strip. Prices really tend to fluctuate for the deluxe rooms depending on the bed count, time of year, and availability. We have seen rooms for as low as $29.99 per night, but it is safe to assume you should expect to pay between $90 and $150 per night.
The junior suite rooms are approximately 400 square feet and are available with one king-sized bed. All the rooms also come equipped with a bar refrigerator, a private work area, an upgraded bathroom, and contemporary furniture throughout. The price point for junior suites typically hovers between $135 and $195 per night.
The Plaza’s pool patio rooms are 325 square feet and offer a large 55-inch flat screen TV and a private patio, which leads to the pool area. Expect to pay upwards of $335 per night for a pool patio room.
The Plaza also offers one or two bedroom suites that are approximately 625 square feet. In addition to the bedroom, you receive a living room area and one and a half baths. The nightly price can start as low as $205 per night and sometimes is higher, just depends on the time of year and availability. If you are interested in the Penthouse it is best to call the hotel directly to inquire about the rate.
Spa and Fitness Center at Plaza
The Plaza invested a lot of time and money into making their fitness center a state-of-the-art facility. They partnered with a local gym, Real Results Fitness, and recently renovated their 5,000 square foot gym space.
It includes traditional workout equipment, personal training options, and group classes. If you are a guest of the hotel is complementary to workout, however, the gym is open to the public too for a daily fee of $25.
While there is no spa at the Plaza, you can book a massage at the fitness center for either 30 or 60 minutes.
Restaurants & Bars at Plaza
The top choice for fine dining at the Plaza is Oscar’s Steakhouse, which is open daily at 4pm. It is located inside the Plaza’s iconic glass dome, and most entrees are priced between $35 and $65 per plate.
Other restaurant options at the Plaza include Brightside Breakfast & Burgers, Manchu Wok, Hash House, Pop Up Pizza, and a food court that includes McDonald’s and Starbucks among a few other choices.
If you are looking for a burger or a sandwich we recommend heading over to Brightside, while Manchu is Chinese cuisine at fairly reasonable prices. There are also two bar options, where you can grab a drink and a quick bite. The first is the Race & Sportsbook Bar, which is adjacent to the Plaza’s sportsbook. The other is the Omaha Bar, located on the casino floor. The Omaha Bar is also home to the Omaha Lounge, where you can enjoy free live entertainment ranging from comedians, entertainers, and live bands.
